In order to let employees know what millions of people in developing countries currently the slow network environment, Facebook launched a called "2G Tuesday" activities.

On Tuesday morning, Facebook employees could voluntarily switch when using the company's application to the simulation of 2G network, using slow Internet speed to update data, pages, photos and videos. In fact, 3G and 4G networks in the United States is almost universal.

"Over the next hour, they experience on Facebook with millions still use 2G to access Facebook users the same. "Facebook engineer tangmu·alisen (Tom Alison) said in a media interview. The aim of the project is to help employees with India, and Thailand and Latin American emerging markets resonate with users, so as to better improve the application, to adapt it to the slow Internet speed.

"They can see areas for improvement. "Allison said," but they will also see that we have achieved great progress in place. ”

Is difficult to judge the weekly one-hour voluntary activities can have much impact on application development, but the company has taken various measures to adapt to the slower speed. Earlier this year Facebook Lite was developed for Android phones, data-intensive services are omitted, leaving only the basic features and push notification.

While Facebook is trying to understand the situation of users in emerging markets, but has faced some criticism, they think Fadcebook this will have an impact on net neutrality.
